Wine Enthusiast Awards our Chardonnay a 91! Good news from the Barn Vineyard yet again! Our 2014 Chardonnay just earned itself a score of 91 from Wine Enthusiast! Our wine rating and review will appear in their online wine database in September. What Wine Ratings Mean Before the 1980s, most wine criticism took place by those who produced or sold wine–this clear conflict of interest didn’t always provide the best wine information for consumers. That all changed when writer and consumer advocate, Robert Parker, came on the scene. Aside from being today’s most recognized wine critic, it was Parker’s 100-point rating system which became the standard by which other critics rate wine, including the publication, Wine Enthusiast Magazine, which was founded in 1988, just in time for the new standardized rating scale. The wine scoring system (aka the Parker Scale) rates different aspects of a varietal, breaking down the scoring to appearance, aroma, flavor, mouthfeel, and overal
Celebrate American Flowers Week! You’ve heard of farm-to-table, but have you heard of field-to-vase? That is the essence of American Flowers Week – which happens every year from June 28th through July 4th. AFW is a celebration of American grown flowers and the farmers who cultivate them, like us here at Stargazer Barn. Knowing that your flowers are grown in America (which helps both our economy and the freshness and durability of your flowers) is a potent reassurance at time of purchase. Even better when you know the farm fresh flowers you order come directly from the people who grow them — we don’t source our flowers from other farms, states, or countries — we grow them, from seed and from bulb, in our own backyard. Enjoying a colorful variety of farm-fresh American grown flowers in original, creative arrangements is just the beginning of the American Grown experience. Why not celebrate this week with something that pleases the palate as well as the eye and nose?

LA Hybrid : The Perfect Hypoallergenic Flower LA Hybrids – the name may conjure up visions of elegant-casual (red carpet meets boardwalk), but this LA represents Longiflorum and Asiatic. These two primary categories of lilies have been hybridized to create elegant-casual flowers in a wide array of colors which have larger blossoms, stronger stems, and longer vase life than their non-hybridized counterparts. LA Hybrid lilies have the added benefit of being pollen-free, making them an ideal choice for any hypoallergenic environment. Even if an allergic reaction is not a concern in your home or office, the elimination of fragrance can actually enhance your appreciation of these particular blooms. You can display LA Hybrids wherever you please and without worrying that you’re adding to a perfect storm of environmental scents (from a coworker’s cologne or perfume to the cooking aromas of a kitchen to the essential oils in your living room. LA Hybrids add lively beauty and natural charm
Stargazer Barn Wins at North of the Gate Wine Competition 2017 Each year, more than 300 wines are entered in the North of the Gate Wine Competition at the Sonoma-Marin County Fair to face fierce evaluation and appraisal by a nine-judge panel of sommeliers, connoisseurs, and veteran winemakers. The competition is stiff, as this Wine Competition highlights the viticulture regions north of San Fransisco, including the world-class vineyards of Napa and Sonoma counties). “That is what makes this award particularly special,” says winemaker Wil Franklin, “our little known AVA of Willow Creek in Humboldt County is going head to head with the very best.” Last year was our first time participating in this competition and we were pleased to bring home the most prestigious wine awards of Gold and Silver for our 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, 2014 Chardonnay, 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2013 Merlot. So, once again we were more than pleased to join this year’s competition with our 20
Flowers Packed With Care A bouquet of farm-fresh flowers which have been hand packed with care by the very people who tended and grew those flowers is the ultimate expression of quality. That quality is exactly what we offer from Stargazer Barn. We are one of the premier flower farms in California, and we take care to pack all our flowers, wine, and gifts to maintain maximum freshness and integrity. No matter the occasion, flowers and wine make an excellent gift. Bright spring blooms such as tulips or iris make a great thank you gift, especially when paired with a bottle of red or white wine. A bouquet of lilies and bottle of wine is a thoughtful and romantic expression of love and affection, while an arrangement of white calla lilies is an appropriate way of expressing sympathy to someone. Simply put, it’s almost impossible to go wrong with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The only issue is making sure your flowers are as fresh as can be when they arrive at their destination.
What is a Stargazer Lily What is a Stargazer Lily? The creator of the Stargazer Lily, breeder Leslie Woodruff, did not keep detailed notes of how he developed this dynamic, fragrant hybrid, so we only know a little bit about its origin. It was created in 1974 as an alternative to the beautiful and fragrant rubrum lily. Rubrum lilies feature an enviable, vibrant pink color, but their downward-facing blooms can lend a droopy, languorous look. Woodruff hybridized the Stargazer Lily to produce the striking, beloved colors of the Rubrum lily, but instead of downward-facing flowers, Stargazer’s blooms face upward, hence the name, Stargazer Lily. The Stargazer Lily became commercially available in 1978, and grew to become one of the most popular and recognizable varieties of lilies available today. Over time the original Stargazer liliy has been bred with improvement for growing, and vase life. We currently offer the second generation of Stargazer, called Starfighter. A Starfighter L
